Emancipation Proclamation
Today I wrote
my Emancipation Proclamation
and kept it over my rib cage
where it remains
declaring me a free Black
Woman.
My pass
into a land
with no overseers.
And no drivers.
I no longer work from can't see
to can't see. Though I work
by lamplight
discerning
my rights-
life, liberty, health,
justice, honest pay,
my own name.
Today I wrote my Emancipation Proclamation.
I am on my own
With my own kind of kind.
No others may walk with me.
