AfroPoets Famous Writers
One of the Guys
He came to the front door.
I could see the wind move past him.
A rumpled collector.
After cans for a price.
He said,
"I knew your daddy.
Used to work with him
At the post office.
Used to work with Jack."
My eyes opened wide.
He smiled at my surprise. Madaddy called Jack!
Laughed a little. He knew my father
Was George to me.
I knew George and Sonny Man.
Jack was handsome and tough.
And better than all the fellas.
Jack was young. One of the guys.
I gave the man some cans.
And thanked him for the gift.
