Prelude to Nothing
i am trying to drain my mind
of all secretions. only then
will i be able to remember
just what it was i said and did
that made you paint your face
until it disappeared
in pale blue noise.
i acknowledge the diseases
of the brain: adolescence.
uncaring minds carrying too
many unexplored chills to hum.
forgetfulness. sadistic brains
that genuflect then chant
no hailmarysfullofgrace
the world is too much with us . . .
i challenge the mind to believe in man
in any man who loves without hating.
What's that you say?
NOW HEAR THIS. NOW HEAR THIS.
man hasn't been invented yet.
i thought not, but what was
that i found snoring
next to
me early one morning?
